Being a hospice nurse is not an easy job. You build relationships with your patients, knowing the end result. Even though you know your patients are on a short time limit with their diagnosis, we don't own crystal balls, and you never know when or how someone will pass. I am new to the Transylvania Hospice team. I am building a patient caseload and just trying to find my way. I can honestly say that I have never felt so supported in my entire career. Keitha has been an amazing support system for me. She is a full-time case manager and knows the daily struggles that I have faced. She takes care of her patients in a way that I hope to be able to do as well one day. She handles family situations, symptoms management situations and even the unpredictable on-call situations at 2 am with ease....and then shows up the next morning to work ready to take it on all over again. She has called me numerous times as a new nurse here to check in on me after the loss of a patient, or after a long day of unexpected patient calls just to make sure that I am holding up and not feeling alone. All I can say is thank you. Thank you for making me feel supported and welcome. You truly do embody the example of what a DAISY Nurse really is.
