"Great things start with great people." A saying my Grandfather always said and from time to time throughout my life, I find it to be true. Especially, when I was just wheeled into my hospital room after my recovery from surgery. I had no idea how painful the procedure and aftermath would be. I felt near death as I cried laying in my hospital bed, begging anybody that would listen about my pain. How my meds were not working. How I'm not going to make it through the night. Just when I was giving up, God sent in my room Kelcy Waite. Oh, thank God for this young lady, this angel. Kelcy came right in and started taking action. She spoke to me kindly and made me feel my words were no longer falling on deaf ears. She wiped the tears from my face and held my hand, told me, she'll call Dr. F for another remedy. And Kelcy did. She spoke with Dr. F about the medication I was on, and how it was just NOT WORKING. But because I'm allergic to everything, red flags were all across my pain regimen. No conclusion to ease my pain. Then Kelcy thought of liquid Tylenol. Wow, of all things Tylenol and in a liquid. Never heard of such a thing. Yet it WORKED, praise God.

Kelcy took excellent care of me, going beyond nurse/patient care. Kelcy led by example of what compassionate people, God's people, are to do, and that is to show love. Matthew 21:28-32. "Let us not love with words or speech, but with actions and in truth." Kelcy not only took care of me, she set a trend for every nurse that came behind her to follow. She told them "my story", how I was in pain, crying, calling out to Jesus and at 45 years old, crying out for my mother. And God sent Kelcy to take care of me and my needs.

I really never got a real chance to thank Kelcy, but I heard about Mercy's DAISY Award. I nominate Kelcy Waite, she displays all the characteristics of a wonderful nurse, a beautiful woman, and a caring human being.

Every nurse I encountered during my stay at Mercy West was connected to me! I can't wait to hear of many more stories of goodness and Mercy that the nurses at Mercy West will have to share. Kelcy wasn't just my nurse that night, she was my angel and I will forever remember her and her love.
