Keli Nikkel, RN
Keli exemplified our mission of going above and beyond for one of our challenging patients in the ED.
We had a 9-day stay in our ED for a young male who was experiencing a mental health crisis. His case was complicated by the fact that he was also deaf and autistic. Keli worked extensively with the patient and the mom on medication management, patient and family education, and discharge planning.
She treated this young man with dignity and was the RN who successfully worked with the psychiatrist and mother to ensure a safe discharge. Keli even offered to educate/train the mother after her shift to ensure she was comfortable with his new medication regimen as she was the primary caregiver.
Even during stressful situations Keli kept her cool and had a calming presence with this patient and you could tell they had a special connection. Because of all of this, I think she should be recognized. Thank you, Keli.
