We all know that one nurse who goes above and beyond on a regular basis for patients and families placed in their care. There is one particular nurse who works in unit 87, and I could tell more than one story of her kindness and willingness to make patients and families feel safe, cared for, seen, and heard. There was a pediatric patient admitted here for a time. This RN made sure his mom had birthday presents to open on her birthday from him, and you better believe that baby had Christmas presents to open on Christmas morning. Not only does this nurse foster an environment of caring and healing for her patients, but for her fellow co-workers as well. I've worked on unit 87 for three years. Very recently, I lost a close friend tragically. From the moment that this nurse found out how involved myself and my family were, she stepped up in ways that I would have never anticipated or expected. Keli covered my charge shifts within minutes of my frantic call to her. Within 24 hours, she had me in a conference room with my manager coming up with plans to help raise money for the funeral and services for the family; as none of us were prepared for this unexpected loss. As my days were spent aiding the family in planning and preparing for the services, Keli was organizing ways to feed my family so that there was one less thing that I had to worry about. The amount of love and support that I have been shown by the people that I work with during this trying time is mind-blowing and humbling and speaks volumes to the types of nurses that unit 87 grows and develops. I am proud to be a part of this family and I cannot say "thank you" enough. Keli makes a meaningful difference every day, in every life that crosses her path. She is the true meaning of a DASIY Nurse and an actual angel on earth!
