That afternoon Kelli took the time during a break to go visit this patient and spoke to her family members.
While volunteering to work in the emergency room, to help the already exhausted staff of the emergency department. I witnessed the exhaustion but I also witnessed compassionate care from a nurse who never let family members see her exhaustion. Kelli took the time to let her patient (who had extremely low blood pressure with sepsis) reflect on the things she loved....her grandson. She told Kelli his name and the things he loved to do. This patient was transferred to ICU. Her condition was grave.

That afternoon Kelli took the time during a break to go visit this patient and spoke to her family members. There at her bedside was her grandson. Kelli walked up to him and said, "I bet your name is X," and she continued telling him how much his grandmother had spoken of him and how much she loved him. Upon sharing that with this little boy, her act of kindness and compassion will help this little fellow to remember just how much his grandmother will always love him. This patient's husband was at the bedside throughout the care provided in the emergency room. I could see in his eyes how comforting it was for Kelli to be so compassionate and thoughtful while in the emergency room and coming back to let them know she was thinking of them. This act of kindness is seen in Kelli's daily practice as she loves nursing and providing compassionate care to her patients and family members.
