Kelli West is a hospice nurse at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She is exactly what you would expect to see when you receive care at Mayo Clinic. She truly embodies all the values at Mayo Clinic and puts the needs of the patients first. My mother made the difficult and brave decision to pursue hospice. However, she wasn't very confident with her decision after everything was set up. We let Kelli know how she felt.

Kelli went above and beyond and set up a meeting for my mom to talk to her oncologist. Kelli had such a compassionate and caring heart when we talked with her about this. She sits with us, explains things very well, takes her time, and goes the extra mile to come to my mom's house and bring whatever she needs. She is someone you feel comfortable asking difficult questions to, and she is someone you can feel comfortable asking for anything. It can be really tough to reach out for things, but she doesn't make you feel like a burden. She wants to help and insists on it.

It is tough for patients and their families, but nurses like Kelli make the journey more peaceful. I also wanted to mention that Kelli is very thoughtful when she enters a person's home. She is fantastic with sanitizing. She is also thoughtful about how she appears and approaches homes to protect the patient’s privacy with neighbors so she doesn't look like a home health service is coming in. I find this to be very considerate of her. I appreciate how knowledgeable she is with medications and other nursing items. When going over medications, she will bring up things to do or consider that we hadn't been told before. She will also notice if an order looks odd and will mention it to the provider. Not only is she kind and thoughtful, but she is also knowledgeable, thorough, and competent! Mayo Clinic's hospice team is very lucky to have Kelli, and so are her patients!
