Kellie didn't have to do it, but without hesitation or even knowing what was going on, she sprang into action.
This morning I was alerted by an Environmental Services (EVS) staff that a patient was in the Medical Office Building (MOB) pick-up/drop-off loop who was very distraught and crying. She was experiencing some general body weakness, pain in her neck and back, and was sweating. I came out of my office to get a wheelchair while the EVS staff member was trying to find a clinical team member to help assess the patient. Kellie was in the Coffee Connection and was alerted to the situation. She quickly dropped what she was doing and sprang into action and called the ER staff to alert them that the patient was on the way. She spoke to the patient and assured her not to worry and that we will take care of her. She helped the patient out of the car into the wheelchair.
On the way to the ER, Kellie was constantly talking to the patient, assessing the patient's symptoms, and assuring the patient that she will be taken care of. Kellie also contacted Security to move the patient's car for her. I am sure Kellie was just doing what she was trained to do, but to me, her actions were heroic. She didn't have to do it, but without hesitation or even knowing what was going on, she sprang into action. It feels so good to know that there are nurses like her here. I was not the patient receiving care, but watching her in her element made me feel better about the situation and honestly just in general about the care, attention, and compassion that patients receive when they are at a Prisma Health facility.
