Kellie Mayes, BSN, RN

Kellie Mayes is an extraordinary and compassionate nurse. She was covering for one of our ECMO patients, who is one of our busiest and complicated patients on the unit. She took the time to connect with the patient’s wife via iPad and texting. The wife wanted to see her husband and Kellie patiently adjusted the iPad and set it at an angle so the wife could watch the care and see her husband for as long as she wanted. Kellie could not hear the wife over the iPad so she utilized text to answer questions and provide updates. She interacted with the wife for over 30 minutes! A couple of days later, the wife sent a beautiful thank you card and treats for the staff. The card mentioned Kellie and the time she allowed her to spend with her husband in such a difficult situation. She stated in the card how much Kellie taking that extra time to include her meant and how Kellie is awesome all around. Kellie provides excellent care to both patients and their families!
