Kelly was the diabetic educator who worked with my 12-year-old newly diagnosed Type 1 Diabetes patient and his family. The family was ELL with Mandarin Chinese as their primary language. She did an exceptional job by being patient and skilled in communication. She showed her compassion and care by being a strong patient advocate. She stayed well into the evening to be sure that all diabetic prescriptions and supplies were picked up at the pharmacy by the parents prior to discharge. She spent many hours educating and answering the many questions that mom had. She worked diligently to ease anxiety and to educate this patient and particularly his mom.
