One of my patients with diabetes and an insulin pump has a neurologic condition that prevents her from placing an infusion set into herself every 3 days as required to continue using the insulin pump. Therefore, she had been dependent on her husband to do this. However, her husband suffered a medical problem and could no longer do this. The patient loves the pump and has done great with it until then. She would have had to stop using the insulin pump, but Kelly has unselfishly been going to the patient's house every 3 days to insert a new infusion set so that the patient can continue to use the insulin pump. My patient is so grateful. Kelly has shown outstanding compassion and concern above and beyond what is required, to make the life of this patient better and prevent untoward events from occurring to this patient. Kelly has regularly helped patients with diabetes improve their lives, along with her colleagues in the diabetes education department.
