Kelly is a great example of delivering the mission. She extends the healing ministry of Jesus Christ each and every shift she works. It can be the care she gives her patients or the leadership she provides to her fellow associates. Kelly is a great example of what we want our associates to represent within CHRISTUS Good Shepherd.
Recently, Kelly was charging on the unit in Same-Day Surgery. She was called to a room of a patient who had a family member that "was not feeling well". When Kelly entered the room, the family member stated she wasn't feeling well and learned that the lady had called her cardiologist and was waiting on his call. The family reported that her left eye was drooping, and the lady felt like her tongue was swelling.
After significant encouragement from Kelly, the family member finally agreed to be taken to the ER for evaluation. Kelly explained that she could be having a stroke and that time was an issue. While walking to the ER, the lady's vision blurred, and she became dizzy. She was admitted to the ER for stroke vs. TIA.
I wanted to recognize Kelly because she is such a leader EVERY SINGLE DAY on our unit. This is just one of the many times she has gone above and beyond. I am thankful that she was observant enough to recognize symptoms in a patient's family member (when they are only in SDS for a short time). Kelly is a shining example of delivering the mission, and we are so proud to have her on our team.
