Perseverance in advocating for our patients is what makes our Geisinger nurses stand out! Working tirelessly to overcome language barriers can be frustrating, but Kelly-Jo Walker is up for the challenge. Join me in Congratulating Kelly-Jo Walker as our August 2022 DAISY Award Winner! Kelly-Jo was nominated by a patient’s family who expressed her deep appreciation for Ms. Walker's time and attention in caring for her non-English speaking patient. They explained that Ms. Walker was patient and kind in addressing all the patient's needs, leading them to a very successful outcome in a very scary situation. Kelly-Jo Walker is a 2012 graduate of East Stroudsburg University with a bachelor’s degree in education. She attended ESU and continued to work in a local pharmacy until she graduated with her LPN from CTC of Lackawanna County. While working as an LPN, she pursued further education at Lackawanna College. She graduated with the first graduating ASN program in May 2022 and ultimately started her career with Geisinger in July 2022. Ms. Walker contributes to Geisinger’s great reputation as well as D6’s teamwork which attracted her to apply. Ms. Walker stated, “The floor was very welcoming, so it turned out that it really wasn't a hard decision at all. Aside from my now coworkers influencing my decision, the patients played a role too. It just felt good to care for the patients and to feel their appreciation. The best thing about working on my unit is my coworkers!! They make it easy to come to work because it's like a second family. It is pretty amazing to see your efforts come to fruition throughout your patients stay and when your patient gets to leave feeling well”. We are so grateful Ms. Walker chose Geisinger!
