Kelly demonstrated compassion and dedication to not only her profession, but to the community in which she serves. Kelly was at the Greenville bowling alley with her husband when a man collapsed. Bystanders were stating that the man was having a seizure and had called EMS. Kelly quickly jumped into action and assessed that the man did not have a pulse and was in fact in cardiac arrest. She performed CPR until EMS arrived. Kelly was subsequently surprised the following week when she entered her patient's room for bedside rounds and realized it was the gentleman that she had performed CPR on at the bowling alley. She had been unknowingly assigned to be his nurse for the shift and was able to care for him for a couple days on the cardiac intermediate unit. The patient was so appreciative that he delivered a bowling ball to her as a thank you for saving his life by performing CPR that day.
