We had a patient come into L&D yesterday via ambulance who was homeless, had no support system, had been assaulted recently, was using drugs, and was very reluctant to allow nurses to care for her. When the patient demonstrated outbursts of anger towards staff, other nurses decided that they did not need to be treated poorly by this patient and left her room. Kelly, however, gave the patient calm, loving, and patient care that allowed the patient to feel safe on the unit.

The following day, Kelly was assigned to the same laboring patient. She took such amazing care of this patient and went above and beyond by calling multiple local emergency housing shelters to try to find her housing to go to after having her baby. She was successful in finding a bed for her in emergency housing. She even helped the patient when she didn’t have access to a car seat. Kelly was beyond patient and was extremely compassionate in her care of this patient.
