Our 5 month old son, W, was transported via life flight to St. Vincent Hospital with respiratory distress. W is our only child and is the light of our life. The overwhelming feeling of guilt, concern and despair rushed over us as the Dr. told us we would have to be transported to St. Vincent's Hospital, almost 70 miles away from our home. My husband and I felt so helpless, all we wanted to do was take away W's pain and suffering. When W and I arrived at the hospital, we were greeted by our nurse, Kelly, and a handful of other medical personnel. Instantly Kelly was walking me through everything they were going to do and what to expect. Kelly was constantly there for W and me. She was an emotional support for us on the scariest night of our lives. She treated our son like he was her own child, with such care and patience. That night, my husband and I were exhausted from the excitement of the day, but Kelly was in and out of our room attending to our needs.
Later that week, I went home to go to work, while my husband stayed at the hospital with W. At this point, W was doing much better, but I also felt confident leaving because Kelly was going to be his night nurse that night. Kelly went above and beyond to make our family comfortable in one of the most stressful situations of our lives. We are so thankful for Kelly's care and dedication. It is evident in her personality and work ethic that she loves her job and she was truly meant to be a nurse. We thank God for having her there on that night, giving our son high quality care.
