Kelly Love was one of the many great nurses I was assigned to during my 11 day stay. I am just 18, so my mom stayed with me as well, and I especially looked forward to Kelly's shifts. I can't believe the extra interest and attention she would give me. When she wasn't scheduled to be "my nurse" that day, she would still find time to stop in and talk to me and ask if she could help in any way. I did not react well to the meds put through my IV and even though I tried to hide it, she could tell it was very painful. She stood by my bed slowly pumping the meds into the IV for somewhere around 20 minutes, to allow less pain for me. I never asked her to. I was willing to push my way through the pain, but she took all that time just to do it in the least painful way possible.
She explained things in a way I could understand. She was never "just doing her job". There was a gentleness and motherliness about her. She was always attentive and never seemed hurried to leave, unless she had to immediately get to another patient. I guess I was a "strange case" because my body seemed to react to everything in the opposite way expected, but she never acted frustrated or agitated about anything. She was always very prepared, concerned for my well-being and not flustered.
I am thankful for her as she was a very calming presence in a time of a lot of confusing pain. We are so grateful to Kelly Love.
Note: This is Kelly's second DAISY Award!
