Kelly impressed me as a new graduate RN over 4 years ago. Since then she continues to consistently provide excellent nursing care to the patients she takes care of and is a wonderful example to her colleagues. In her daily practice she demonstrated the core values, she stays up-to-date on evidence based practice; strives to learn about and implement best practice. On the unit; Kelly is a natural leader and teacher. She participates in shared governance for the unit, leads as a charge nurse, strives to learn and know more in order to provide superior care. She is the kind of nurse I would want to take care of me in my most vulnerable time. She recently had a patient she was concerned about and when the physician ignored her concerns she utilized a team approach in order to provide the care her critically ill patient demanded. She had Pharmacy, PEAT, and the other RN's readily available. She is an amazing patient advocate with an enormous heart to take her job and her responsibilities seriously. She is an extraordinary RN, and is a perfect candidate for the DAISY Award.
Her nursing instincts were right-on and her patient was transferred to ICU and passed away shortly thereafter. She is well respected by physicians for her keen assessment; she is well liked by students for her ability to teach and is admired by her nursing colleagues.
