Being hospitalized away from home for an extended length of time is not ideal; when I learned I had to stay longer, sadness, anger, hurt, depression, and more followed. I perceived this as my fault. Thoughts of blame and self-hatred filled my head. I couldn't share my feelings and shut down, refusing to talk, responding withone-wordanswers when a head nod didn't suffice. Kelly kept trying to get me to talk, but didn't push or make me uncomfortable. Finally, I spoke to her, and she stayed to chat, asked me questions, helped me order food, looked at family pictures, assured me I was on the rightpath,and was available to listen if I decided to talk. Kelly was who I needed in that moment. I am so grateful for her loving, understanding, genuine personality. When I am a nurse, I hope I can be half as good as Kelly. I can't thank you enough. You are amazing.
