I am honored to nominate Kelly Moorehead for the DAISY Award in recognition of her outstanding dedication to serving our community, especially the most vulnerable members, during the extreme summer heat in Arizona. This summer, Kelly took initiative well beyond the scope of her daily responsibilities by assembling and distributing thoughtful, life-sustaining care kits for individuals experiencing homelessness. Understanding the severe risks posed by triple-digit temperatures in our region, she personally developed and executed a plan to provide practical relief and compassionate care. Each kit she assembled included: A water bottle to prevent dehydration, Sunscreen and ChapStick to protect against sun exposure, A cooling towel to offer immediate relief from the heat, Clean socks, an often-overlooked but essential comfort item. Printed resource guides listing local cooling centers where individuals can find shelter, hydration, and support. These items were not only thoughtfully selected but also distributed with genuine care and dignity, ensuring that each person felt seen and valued. Kelly exemplifies our organization’s core values of compassion, innovation, and service. Her proactive approach and empathy turned a personal initiative into a potentially life-saving project, and her actions reflect the very best of who we are and who we aspire to be. Her work this summer stands as a powerful example of what it means to truly go above and beyond.
