Kelly's actions exemplify the selfless attitude that is engrained in the nursing profession.
Kelly has been caring for a patient in hospice who shared a touching wish with her. He and his wife have been going to dinner and a movie at Goetz Theatre every Tuesday for years. His goal before he died was to have another movie night in town with his wife. Because of the COVID pandemic, Kelly knew that would not happen. However, determined to make a special moment for this patient, Kelly contacted the Monroe Chamber of Commerce.
While unable to get a movie shown at the Goetz Theatre, Kelly was able to arrange for a movie to be shown at the Monroe Theatre Guild on Tuesday. She arranged for a screen to be assembled on stage and allowed the couple to choose what movie they wanted to watch. She also arranged for a local popular eatery, Pancho & Lefty's, to provide dinner to the couple at no cost during the film. The couple's daughter even got in on the fun and acted as their waitress.
While the couple and their family have asked for the story to not be widely publicized, upon learning Kelly's generosity I wanted to ensure she was recognized for her outstanding compassion to make this patient's simple wish come true. Kelly's actions exemplify the selfless attitude that is engrained in the nursing profession. She has gone above and beyond in caring for this patient beyond the physical. She embodies everything the DAISY Award stands for.
