Kelly cried right along with me. She hugged me so tight and had the most comforting hug and words during that time.
Kelly was an absolute blessing to my dad and our family. Dad loved when she was his nurse because he could pick on her and she’d pick right back. She always took out the time to work with dad when it came to taking his medicine that sometimes he didn’t want to take. She was so patient with him. Kelly would always take the extra time to explain what was going on with Dad in a way that we could understand.
Dad got moved to ICU during his stay and missed having Kelly as his nurse. Once he came back up to the 4th floor he was on the opposite side from Kelly. She saw me downstairs and told me she was praying for us, gave me the biggest hug, and said she planned on coming to visit us. Around 3:30 pm Dad’s oxygen dropped and she came running from her area to come help. She heard that he was having trouble and made a point to get over there and help him - something she definitely didn’t have to do.
Once we knew that Dad was going downhill we had to start the hospice route. Kelly cried right along with me. She hugged me so tight and had the most comforting hug and words during that time. Dad was a veteran and the nurses made sure he was honored with a Final Salute. Kelly stayed after her shift to make sure she was there to honor him. I told Kelly how amazing she was, but she tells us that we helped her get through a rough patch she had as well. I truly believe God brought her into our lives and placed her with Dad. We are so grateful to have Kelly as part of our Dad’s story.
