My husband and I brought our son to the ER late on a Saturday because he was experiencing croup-like symptoms. Nurse Kelly first came in to see our son and give him some medication. She knew our 17-month-old would have a hard time with the taste of the medicine and was very gentle and patient giving it to him. We had a few hours to wait for him to be monitored and she regularly came back to check on all of us. Although the ER is a busy place, she made it feel as though we were the only family she was attending to. She spent the time to get to know how our son likes to give knuckles and is more comfortable when he can share a fist bump and blow a kiss! We were released and went home with instructions for care for our son.
Unfortunately, we had to return a couple of hours later when our son was having a hard time breathing. Kelly was the first face we saw when we went back for care. She said she'd been thinking about us and had been worried about us. This warmed our hearts so much knowing we hadn't been a "case number" in our visit to the ER. It's not fun to bring a little boy in who doesn't understand but she was very soothing for him and offered him knuckles to get him comfortable again. After we returned, the ER had become busier and she still showed her attitude that we were important and made us feel that we were the only family there. We didn't get admitted, but our time with Kelly was the most memorable and positive from our 2 days at the hospital.
