Kelly is an amazing member of our ER team. Recently we had a patient who was in the ER on a psych hold. It was a pediatric patient who was in our facility for 12 days waiting for a bed in a pediatric psych facility. Kelly always takes our pediatric patients with mental health issues into her heart and talks with them. She knows that often these kids are overlooked and don't get the care they need in the system. She spent time with this young man and became an advocate for him. Our usual process is to have CERT come and try to find a placement. In true Kelly fashion, she took the bull by the horns and started to make calls. The first was to a patient advocate for pediatric psychiatric patients. She then began to call 15 different facilities in the area to see if they heard of this patient. She realized that most had not been reached out to and began the task with the help of social services, of faxing 60 pages of information to each of these facilities. Then she called them and called again; making sure that each had received the information. Making sure they had a chance to evaluate the information. With persistence, she found an accepting facility. Thanks to her initiative and caring, the gentleman was getting the help he needed. She ended a 12-day hospital stay and benefited the patient. She is amazing!
