Kelly was nominated by Felicia Kas, BSN, RN another ED nurse. Felicia wrote about an incident that occurred, "during a code with a patient who had family present. Family made the decision to stop CPR. Support by Kelly at the bedside was phenomenal. The family had asked if they could sing, 'I'll Fly Away.' Kelly, who admitted to being slightly nervous, looked up the lyrics on youtube, shared them with the family, recruited another nurse to sing and sang with the family while the patient passed away. The family reported that they were 'so happy we came to this hospital'. Kelly led a moment that the family will never forget."
