Kelly Wallis cared for a young woman with end-stage breast cancer. This patient's only wish was to go home and be with her husband and young son. Kelly worked diligently to get this woman home. She would not take "no" as an answer from anyone on the team. For example, the hospice team wanted to delay discharge because it was going to be difficult to get an infusion pump to the patient's home. She was not ok with this answer and she worked with the MDs to develop an alternative safe plan to treat the patient without the need for IV fluids or pump until the next morning. She advocated for this patient every step of the way. Her kindness and compassion soothed this family and assured them that she would do whatever it took to get her home. Not only is she a skilled clinician, but she is also thoughtful, caring, and compassionate.
