We have had several issues with my son’s gastrostomy tube for years. The buttons never seemed to fit right, constantly leaked, and the skin around the site was often irritated. In the past, we were basically told it was something we’d have to deal with and that some kids just have these issues. We were left without options and had pretty much resigned ourselves to this state of care. I honestly didn’t expect much to come out of this appointment, but I was pleasantly surprised. Kelsey Center greeted us warmly and took the time to consider what I had to say about our issues with the g-tube. After checking the site, she offered practical solutions to our problem and was patient with me while I wrote everything down to make sure I understood our next steps. She even gave us a contingency plan in the event that plan A didn't work and provided supplies for us to use in the interim until our DME could send us our own. She didn't just blow off my concerns. She listened, she gave us options, and she gave me hope that my son wouldn’t have to just make do with a leaky G-tube site for the rest of his life.
