Again I felt the uplifting light of the Children's Hospital staff when visiting with Kelsey.
My daughter A, entered the hospital to have her baby, S. After complications with the birth, S had suffered a lack of oxygen and a team from Methodist Children's Hospital in San Antonio flew to get S and get her into the cooling treatment at Methodist Children's Hospital.
Everything about this experience was a shock to our minds and bodies. When the team arrived and had packaged our little one for transport they stopped at my daughter's bedside to let her see little S and explain what they were doing. Their attitude and disposition were a breath of fresh air and had an uplifting effect on all of us. The light they projected was felt by all and I personally felt as though God had given us a glimpse at his angels.
M, the baby's father, accompanied little S on the air vac and 24 hours later, we were able to drive A, who had received a c-section, to Methodist Children's Hospital. Upon arriving late at night with A, Dr. D gave us a very honest and thorough explanation of what they had done with S, how the cooling process works, and what to expect in the next few days. We spent many hours each day standing by little S's station watching her and praying over her. It was very refreshing and comforting to see such a professional, caring, and humane staff of nurses and doctors doing everything they could do to take care of little S and also understand our struggles with the situation.
I spent the most time with Ms. Kelsey Holten on the first day I was there. She is extremely professional, well-spoken, and had an excellent manner when communicating with us. Again I felt the uplifting light of the Children's Hospital staff when visiting with Kelsey. Throughout the day my wife and I asked her many questions, probably the same question a couple of times, and she would patiently explain the information in a kind and understanding way that put us at ease and made us feel secure that our little one was in good hands. She's an exceptional young nurse, doing a fantastic job in an environment that can't be easy. We were blessed to have her with us during our initial adjustment to everything going at the hospital. The beauty of her excellence is her natural ability to interact with us in a sincere and professional way (to her it was probably just another day but having her with us that the first day was the first impression we needed).
I hope the DAISY Award can convey our gratitude for her excellence. You're lucky to have her on your staff. Many others on the staff were helpful and kind, but Kelsey had the greatest impact on our well-being. Thank you, Kelsey.
