There is a young girl here in the IICU involved in an accident that has left her bedridden since arrival. Kelsey admitted this patient to the IICU and recognized that this young girl had a significant amount of dried blood in her hair, causing her hair to be matted to the back of her head.

Kelsey herself suffered a significant injury in her late teens, leaving her bedridden for a significant amount of time as well. That experience allowed Kelsey to relate to this young girl on a level of importance that went beyond just the healthcare side. Although she did not have time during that shift to address this patient's hair, she did not forget about it. She came in on her day off (the following day) and spent hours washing and brushing her hair. She did this without being asked, without being noticed, and without being paid.

She did this as a courtesy to this young girl, knowing what it felt like to be lying in that bed unable to wash your own hair when it needed it the most. This patient was beyond grateful for Kelsey's kindness, patience, and willingness to go out of her way to make her feel a small semblance of normalcy without having to shave her head.

This is Kelsey's 2nd DAISY Award!

Thank you, Kelsey, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
