Kelsey King 2, BSN, RN
End-of-life care is often challenging, and especially so when we have not been able to create a relationship with the family. Kelsey was the primary nurse providing care for a patient whose family kindly decided to withdraw technological support for their dying child.
In meeting the family, she quickly and kindly created a trusting and thoughtful relationship with the family, showed great compassion by allowing the family to make memories with their child, making footprints and handprints, and allowing them to hold and be with their child. She helped guide the primary medical team in assessing the family's readiness to withdraw technological support.
She was their advocate. She stayed with the family as the baby passed and provided support even after. She is the personification of a DAISY Nurse.
