Not all angels have wings, some have scrubs.
In this day of COVID quarantine, the hardest thing we have faced was placing a seriously ill family member in the hospital and being unable to be with them. Our family, unfortunately, lost my father and brother on the same day in separate medical emergencies. My brother, M, arrived at Mercy on Thursday with a sepsis infection. Kelsey was a key component in having M transferred to Bergan Mercy. She was so great in communicating with our family, answering our questions, updating us as needed, and passing information to M from us. Her caring attitude helped calm us as we felt he was being treated with compassion and professionalism and little sassy humor on the side.
The following day, Kelsey also became the nurse for my father who arrived with a heart condition. My mom and I were able to be with my father as he took his final breaths. She was the perfect nurse for him. He joked with her and she fed it right back to him. He was laughing and joking with her up until the end. I couldn't have picked a better nurse with such a great attitude to care for him. She went above and beyond with her compassion and caring attitude with M and Dad.
On top of caring for my Dad, she was so good with Mom and me as we sat by his side. Nurses are special people, but some nurses are true angels. My family was lucky enough to have Kelsey treat M and Dad. I do believe she was shocked when she found out she was treating patients from the same family within a day. I can tell you that we have not always had nurses willing to give the family the peace and comfort Kelsey gave us through her care. Bless you Kelsey for doing what you do and excelling at the professional side and going above and beyond on the personal side in dealing with the family.
