Kelsey Bunn is a phenomenal nurse and a vital asset to our department and the Salem VA Health Care System. Often it is said that her smile and laughter are contagious, which improves our team's morale and anyone's morale who is around her. During an IR procedure, the Veteran receiving care had a heart-stopping event.

Once nurse Kelsey recognized the cardiac event, she jumped into action, literally! The table was too tall for her to adequately reach, but that didn't stop her. She sprang up on the table performing cardiac massage to keep the patient's heart beating until the code team arrived and continued for another 10 minutes post their arrival. If it wasn't for her quick wit and thinking it could have been detrimental for the Veteran. Kelsey's compassion often shines through when planning procedures and care for the Veterans, ensuring every detail has been addressed. She is always advocating for our Veterans. They receive top-notch care, and she would not accept anything different. Often, she has "Good Catch" safety events and will call a time out to ensure the care plan is discussed in the best interest of the Veterans. She uses her many years of nursing knowledge and continuation of medical education to strive for excellence.

Kelsey truly deserves the DAISY Award because daily she is able to maintain the trust and confidence of our Veterans and their families by providing dignity and respect to everyone she encounters. She continues to strive for excellence and provide the highest quality of care, and she never backs down from the cause.
