Kelsey fosters youth and motivation that sometimes gets lost in an older nurse. Her dedication to her patients' not only physical well-being, but mental health as well is astounding.

From styling bed-bound patients' hair, encouraging healthy communication between staff, and decorating a room with only our unit's supplies in the unfortunate event someone is here on their birthday, she is a role model to all she comes in contact with.

There is one interaction I believe needs to be highlighted. There was a period of time when our unit cared for a patient that required a longer stay than expected, around a couple of months in time.

This patient was unable to speak and unable to provide any care for themselves due to their condition. They became notably depressed and withdrawn during this time. Kelsey did not take this lying down.

Every night shift, even when not assigned to this patient, she would fix their hair and read to them from books she thought would entertain them; there were even a couple of days when I would hear about a dance party that took place in the patient’s room.

Without these interactions, that patient would've been at their lowest point, but Kelsey provided the compassion that every human deserves. Her interactions inspire me every shift to continue doing the fun little things with patients, because you never know what act of kindness could be the action to turn the tide.
