May 2019 Honoree
kelsey vanden brink, RN
I am writing to commend Kelsey's outstanding nursing provided to a patient of mine last week. This patient is incredibly challenging and has a TBI, can be violent and was admitted for weight loss.
This patient has rarely stayed in the hospital more than 12-24 hours as she gets angry, starts demanding and then leaves AMA.
Last week was different, I watched Kelsey calmly and carefully manage all this patient's myriad requests and demands. Kelsey went with this patient to her ultrasound to help keep her calm. When I talked to Kelsey about the study, Kelsey said, "She was really in pain during the study." No one has listened to and cared for this patient like Kelsey did. I am not blaming the other care providers, this patient can literally bite staff.
To my amazement, this patient stayed in the hospital for a full 2.5 days and got all the evaluation she required. I credit Kelsey with this! Kelsey has my respect and commendation for this example of nursing at its best.
