Kendall Handy, BSN, RN

Kendall Handy was nominated for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award by her chief nursing officer based on a phone call received from a patient’s family member who was treated at Wilkes Medical Center. Part of that feedback included appreciation for Handy. As they described, the patient was brought to the hospital by EMS with very concerning symptoms and was likely critically ill. The family member waited over an hour for an update and was getting frustrated with the lack of information. Handy found the patient, was able to provide an update on her condition, and kept them updated throughout the visit. The patient’s family member requested that Handy be recognized for her excellent work.

“Kendall is an exceptional nurse with a wealth of knowledge,” said Handy’s supervisor. “She has a strong clinical background as an emergency department nurse. It can be a stressful time for families when their loved ones come into the emergency department. Kendall always shows caring and compassion for patients and families. She worked to ensure this family was updated on the patient’s status. Nursing supervision often serves as a liaison between patients, physicians, and families.”
