April 2012 Honoree
kendall reese, RN
My brother, was recently hospitalized for pancreatitis. His care during his entire stay was excellent, but I was especially impressed by one of your night nurses, Kendall. I found her an exceptional nurse who far exceeded my expectations. I spent two nights at my brother’s bedside so my sister-in-law could get some much needed rest. Kendall was his nurse both nights.
As a retired nurse with 40 years experience and a strong med surge background, I know how complicated my brother’s care was. One night he had an insulin drip, IV antibiotics, IV electrolyte replacement and an IV drip for hypertension. In addition to all of that he went into rapid A-fib at 3:00 a.m.
I know Kendall had other patients, but she gave my brother ICU level care. I was impressed with her expertise and knowledge base. In addition to her medical skills, she was warm, caring and ended every visit by asking if there was anything else we needed.
For all these reasons, I am recommending Kendall for the DAISY award. She’s the kind of nurse that helps KU maintain its excellent reputation.
