Ms. Reeves has proven to be an advocate for the residents, by “meeting them where they are “.
To Daisy Committee members, Ms. Reeves ,LPN CFCN serves as the Domiciliary Medical Clinic Nurse since 2021. Ms. Reeves embodies the VA Mission and I CARE values in her every day practice. Ms. Reeves treats the residents with the dignity and respect and offers just the right amount of compassion that is needed. Below are just a few example how she exemplifies the ICARE values in her every day practice I - Integrity & Respect Ms. Reeves is guided by high moral principles and adheres to the highest professional standards. She maintains the trust and confidence with her residents and staff members. Example- Patient presented to the clinic for admission while she was conducting his triage she noticed he was wearing briefs and took a mental note. The next day he presented to the clinic again with some concerns. She ushered him to a private area and with very few words she understood he needed additional briefs. Without making him feel uncomfortable while maintaining his dignity & respect a new order was placed. She also ensured that when he picked up the briefs they were placed in a non-descript bag so to not bring additional attention. C-Commitment She is the senior LPN preceptor for the day shift - She is committed to providing a robust orientation to the unit. She takes the time to identify staff members learning styles and adjusts her precepting techniques in order to have a successful orientation. Example: Ms. Reeves recognized that a nurse was not able to be told how to gain access to CPRS and enter progress notes, immediately after hospital orientation. They sat down and went over the steps and then wrote them down. This was repeated a few times, however they were still not progress with that task. Later, she tried repetition without using notes. This technique served to work better for the employee and she was able to retain the steps needed to complete tasks. As a note of reflection and follow up for both , The notes will be used at a later date as a point of reference for the employee. A-Advocacy: Ms. Reeves has proven to be an advocate for the residents, by “meeting them where they are “. Example: Ms. Reeves advocates for her veteran by interpreting what was being stated by the provider, relaying it back to the resident until they had a full understanding. A few of the providers have accents and residents find it difficult to understand and sometimes neither the patience to try. Ms. Reeves knows the benefits of correct information and fluid communication. Knowing it’s a language barrier and not anything else that was keeping the resident from getting the care they were seeking. She stayed with the veteran and became the interpreter until all needs were met, by both veteran and provider. R- Respect: Ms. Reeves shows her Veterans respect in her daily nursing practice. ( see integrity example) E- Excellence: Ms. Reeves strives for the highest quality and continuous improvement by assisting leadership with pain management metrics, PRN effectiveness and staff engagement activities. Example: Ms. Reeves supported the NM with adding a “Welcome Bag” for new staff members to support the unit’s nurse retention initiative . The NM presents an “Orientation Survival Kit “the first day of NEO followed by the “ Welcome Bag ‘ once they arrive on the unit for orientation.
