Ken takes time with each and every patient and builds a relationship. He learns about their family and hobbies. Ken is able to provide education when patients want to reschedule or end treatment early and ultimately the patient arrives or completes their care. Ken truly believes in compassionate care and freely states that “he comes to work to take care of patients and make their treatments more bearable”. There are several stories of Ken going above and beyond, however, this one sticks out.

A male patient was agitated upon arrival and was a former HHD patient. The patient left the floor with needles in his arm and went to his car. Ken and the PCT followed the patient to his vehicle. Ken was able to talk to the patient and explain the safety issues with leaving while the patient protested. Ken was able to discuss with him the challenges of in center and reassure him that he had the best intentions for him and will provide personal support during his journey. His soft-spoken and caring voice allowed the patient to reset and stop treatment in the appropriate manner. Due to the compassion shown to the patient he returned for his in-center treatments.

Not only was Ken able to prevent a bad situation from becoming worse; but said patient continued treatment and successfully received a transplant within the year.
