Ken always goes above and beyond! When it comes to a difficult patient, bringing on a new orientee, helping co-workers and family feel better or just when you're having a bad day… Ken is there!
I remember when we had a patient with a brain bleed. The husband stayed at the bedside all day and night; he looked so worried and always had tears in his eyes. Ken took the extra time to explain things and answer questions, even though he had a new orientee and a full patient load. Ken's attention to this family and compassion to the patient made a sad situation a little more bearable; the husband appeared comforted and more at peace after this special time with Ken.
Ken is very prompt to answer call lights, help with turning patients or provide a smile and cheer to a co-worker who might be feeling a little down. He takes time with new staff to ensure their success. He makes sure they experience different situations and all kinds of patients to enhance their skills and best practice. Just today, Ken asked me and my patient if the orientee could assist/participate in the care, for the experience.
Ken truly deserves this DAISY Award.
