Kenneth stewards the profession with his compassion towards not only patients but patients' family members and staff members as well.
This nurse was hired on as the ACNOIC of 3S in 2016 and quickly became well-renowned throughout the department of nursing. He isn't a leader who merely performs his daily duties as outlined in his position description, but goes above and beyond any expectations of an excellent leader. He stewards the profession with his compassion towards not only patients but patients' family members and staff members as well. He is constantly seen around the unit ensuring each staff member has all resources they need to provide the highest quality of care possible to our patient population and he's even seen frequently outside of his normal duty hours conducting these rounds.
Following the start of the COVID pandemic, he has increased his presence around the unit and has frequently stayed well into the night to provide helping hands to our nursing staff for any patients being proned or new post-op open-heart patients. He consistently puts himself aside to care for those around him, whether it's a staff member or student, a nurse or physician, a patient or a family member.
His level of care and compassion for the field of nursing is truly unparalleled. In addition to the selfless overtime hours that he clocks in to help patients and staff, he volunteers his experience and expertise to teach and train students and staff members during his "ICU Basic" and "Hemodynamics" courses. He has dedicated over 320 clinical education hours to teach over 450 nurses, both novice and experience ICU nurses throughout BAMC, to provide high quality care for patients requiring any specialized cardiac equipment as well as post-op open-heart patients.
He is the continuity and backbone of 3S who always remains positive and a forward thinker. When times get tough for the nurses, they always look to him for inspiration because he has a way of reminding us that we're not "just nurses" we're all incredible heroes!
