My son was a patient in ARU for more than three months. This is the second phase of his medical condition. My son was already in Pedi ICU at Stanford for over 3.5 months prior to this. It was an unimaginable and overwhelming journey for him and my family. He was diagnosed with a rare neurological illness and with it comes frightening complex situations and of course a level of care. Kenneth Santos is one of his nurse’s, who for a lot of time was his primary nurse. We want to recognize him specifically for his genuine care and compassion towards my son.
His knowledge and skills as well as diligence stand out. He updates us regarding my son’s plan of care within his shift. He makes sure coaches and sitters are well aware of these plans too. He makes us fully informed as parents and acknowledges our concerns and inputs. We like how he collaborates with the entire team. We like how organized and resourceful he is. We are aware that my son is not an easy patient because of his diagnosis he can be unpredictable with his behavior and actions thus medical treatments and way of care are always changing and varying. He shows his caring attitude through his skills, knowledge, and patience. We are a big part of my son’s treatment plan of care and we definitely appreciated that he always consults and acknowledges our issues and concerns as well as suggestions. We feel comfortable stepping outside of the unit or building whenever he’s the nurse of my son. He is a gem of this unit. We want to make sure these qualities of him as a nurse are recognized.
