My nomination for the DAISY Award is Kenneth Sweatman RN, BSN. He is always commended by his peers and family member on his compassionate, quality care. This is evidenced by the following letter we received from the family member of one of his patients:
My mother came to the E.R. on a wing and a prayer. Her blood pressure was near 300 over 200. I could tell by the actions of the E.R. staff that she may not make it in her condition. The orchestration of the staff, lead by the E.R. physician, was a phenomenon.
After stabilization, mom was transferred to CCU where I met an amazing individual, Ken, her nurse. He immediately took the reins and made every step count. He performed like an All-Pro. No hitches. He continued the brilliant effort of the E.R. staff, with one difference; he was the one man show. A team of horses could not have done more than this man did. I guessed that this guy is seasoned. I speculated that this guy had 25-30 years of nursing under his belt. I was wrong about that. What I should have thought is this guy performs the same as one with many years of experience.
Ken was a self starter, synchronized, diligent, dedicated, driven, courteous, humorous, innovative, crisp, energized, multi-skilled, ad very impressive. He made my mother and me feel like we were very special. I liked what I saw. I knew we were in very good hands.
