Keri demonstrates skill and compassion in care each and every day and with all her interventions. Keri recently received an ICARE nomination, initiated by a patient's family member who is also an employee here at Gaylord. It can be difficult to provide care to someone's family member with whom you have a working relationship. This person said Keri provided beautiful care, made sure he received his favorite yogurt so his meds went down easier and washed his hair when the patient's wife could not make it in.
She provided a calm and reassuring demeanor that patients and families trust and respect. Keri shows dedication to restoring a person's health and their dignity. Keri was there to provide emotional support when the family member was not doing well, met the family's tears with a warm embrace and tears of her own. The family expressed that her communication of raw empathy at that moment made her feel less alone, sad and scared. She left feeling that her family member was in the hands of someone who would treat him like family.
Keri's compassionate care shines in this way every day. She is a true leader on the unit. Keri is usually found in one of her patients' rooms, providing care, support, teaching to both the patient and their family. She is a strong advocate for patients, works with the entire care team to provide the highest level of care to our patients. She is wonderful at identifying areas for improvement on the unit and always identifies how we can provide safe and excellent care in the process. Her resource and assist with problem-solving with other members of the team helps to achieve this goal. Keri is a preceptor for new nurses; helping to develop professional skills in others and demonstrates by example. Keri is a true DAISY Nurse.
