I recently delivered a baby at BIDMC, and am so grateful that Kerin was my nurse. I will remember her for the rest of my life. I am not exaggerating when I say my entire labor/birthing experience would have been entirely different had Kerin not been working.
Although my labor/birth was uneventful and healthy, my anxiety was very high. I have a history of anxiety/panic, and I was incredibly scared that something was going to go catastrophically wrong with myself or the baby. Kerin was able to understand this instantly. Her manner of care took this into account for the entire twelve hours she was with me. My labor began when her shift started and I delivered as her shift was ending (she actually stayed late to make sure myself and baby were doing well!). Due to my anxiety, I would consider myself a high-maintenance patient. Kerin worked harder than any nurse or doctor I've had to ensure that I was doing as well emotionally as I possibly could be. She wasn't annoyed by my constant questions. She held my hand when I got the epidural. When my blood pressure spiked she immediately ordered blood tests as a precaution but assured me it was likely my anxiety (she was correct!).
Every single thing I was nervous about, Kerin was able to talk me through what was going on and assure me that everything was going as it should. When it was time to push I was exhausted and scared and didn't believe I was actually going to be able to push the baby out of my body. Kerin yet again held my hand and had me repeat the phrase "I can and I will." She exuded genuine warmth, kindness, and confidence. I immediately felt safe in her presence and trusted that I was in the best possible care. Kerin made me feel like I was her only patient and as if her only purpose at work that day was to get me to deliver my baby. I could go on and on about her.
Kerin, your compassion and patience for my needs went above and beyond. It is unlikely I'll encounter a medical professional this special again. Thank you so, so much.
