The loss of a patient can be hard on so many individuals - the patient's family and the staff who cared for them. Often, the effects of a patient loss on the nurse go unnoticed as attention shifts entirely to the loved ones, for good reason. However, Kerri exemplified the core values of compassion, human dignity, and sacredness of life and service by remembering and emphasizing that her co-workers are humans too. She recognized when those around her suffered a loss and were overcome with their own grief, as they watched the loved ones of the patient break down. With Kerri's typical level-headed and compassionate approach, she not only helped to ensure that the family was ok, but that her fellow co-workers took care of themselves, took advantage of resources, (the Chaplain), and had space to process what happened- as it was hard for them with their own recent losses looming over them. Her patience, compassion, and excellent teamwork are not something limited to one event, but something that is CONSISTENTLY exhibited whenever she steps on the unit. Kerri is truly a DAISY Nurse.
