My 10-year-old daughter was transferred to Arkansas Children's Hospital PICU with complications. We were under the care of nurse Kerri Wafer for two nights before being transferred to another unit. Kerri demonstrated an unbelievable level of care for my daughter and me. She sat with my daughter and got her nails painted and played cards with her after assuring me she would watch after her while I got a much-needed shower and laundry done at the hospital. It had been 3 days of almost zero sleep for me and no shower being available to me. She came into the room the first night while we slept and picked up my daughter's many arts and crafts projects, with no request to do so. Kerri also assured me it was okay to get some rest as she would make sure my daughter was okay through the night. The second night under her care, I, her Dad, had waited until my daughter was asleep and finally broke down emotionally. Kerri came in and spoke with me and calmed me down. She informed me we were doing everything the doctors asked us and more. She helped me as my wife was three hours away, also ill, and unable to be with us. She took care of my daughter like she was her own and made a lasting impression on both my daughter and me. For the care and comfort she provided to us in a terrible experience, we will be eternally thankful.
