Where to begin with this absolutely professional and caring Nurse? I had the honor of meeting her approximately two years ago. I was in and out of SWRMC with a lot of health issues. Kerstin took her time and made sure everything was done correctly, but most importantly, that I understood every step of what was going on. At the time, I did not know of The DAISY Award, otherwise I would have nominated her then. However, this week I had to be readmitted to SWRMC and I was assigned to 3 North. Of course, upon arrival everyone was nice and greeted me, however, Kerstin took it one step further. Not only did she step up and volunteer to be my Nurse, she even remembered how much I liked the outdoors and got me to my room. Now I'm not sure if you are familiar with this room, but when the door is open, you are able to see the sun rise out of the very large windows. The fact that she remembered that little detail really stood out to me.
On top of having a busy floor that evening, she maintained great composure and confidence throughout the shift. Not only with just me, but with all of the patients. She would even jump in to help fellow coworkers do tasks without them asking for it. Kerstin was prompt and timely on medications. Making the most of each encounter, even when having to have labs drawn, Kerstin somehow just made it better. Although in a mask, you could tell she always had a smile on her face and would laugh and joke with you. This might sound like what the hospital experience is supposed to be like. However, she made it so much more, I feel as though she should be chosen for The DAISY Award. Kerstin made my time in the hospital actually enjoyable, which not many people can say. I know there is not "I" in team, but she definitely was a team player and an excellent role model for all Nurses. I think every Nurse could learn to be a little more like Kerstin every day.
