Allen manages the ward with transparency, fairness, and equality for all. He nurtures a positive attitude, tight-knit teamwork, and lightheartedness.
The staff of CLC-2 would like to extol the leadership values of our new assistant nurse manager who came to us from Primary Care and stepped into the management role of an entirely different atmosphere. Allen is an exceptional nurse and a leader who promotes a positive environment where staff want to work and be part of a great team
He quickly learned where everything is located on the unit and obtained access to the med cart, BCMA, and omni-cells. Allen made his list of who to contact when materials or assistance is required. This manager was here to work!
He takes the time after he attends nursing morning report, since day one, to do a walk-about and greet the patients every morning. He listens to their concerns and takes care of any immediate needs. Through multiple appointments, call lights, phone calls, and patient care, he jumps to the task without hesitation.
Allen is also there for the nursing staff, to back us up and give assistance when and where needed. He supports and encourages all staff in pursuit of their educational needs and family/work-life balance when possible. Allen makes sure we have access to and training on the equipment we need to work at the highest proficiency.
As Assistant Nurse Manager, his demeanor remains pleasant and unchanged when he has been called to de-escalate several situations with patients on the ward.
CLC-2 was hit with a Covid outbreak in mid-August, many staff were off work and a Covid ward had to be opened downstairs. Allen worked as a floor nurse with a med cart for several days, a 12-hour med team for several more days. He was the only nurse, with one CNA on the unit. Two times he worked until 1500, would go home to sleep, and come back to cover the evening and/or night shift. During this time he also ensured that the Covid unit had all necessary supplies and staffing. Allen is a leader who sets the example as a team member.
The difficult times of that Covid outbreak are over and staff have never heard a negative remark from our assistant nurse manager. He is continually upbeat and gives the feeling that we can accomplish anything as a team. Staff are updated throughout the day and informed on current decisions or problems that affect us. Allen manages the ward with transparency, fairness, and equality for all. He nurtures a positive attitude, tight-knit teamwork, and lightheartedness.
Recently staff were concerned about new pressure injuries and staff involvement, creating a negative environment. Allen calmly addressed the situation, explaining the issue, addressing the resident's non-compliance and staffs’ documentation showing that non-compliance played a large part in the new wounds and staff had not been negligent in care.
Our unit is exceptionally glad to have Allen here to complement our nurse manager. He exemplifies the I-CARE values we all work to achieve, a true veteran and staff-centered leader.
