My son E is 13 and had major surgery on his right knee as well as a less severe procedure on his left knee on the same day. We ended up having to stay the night in the hospital as he needed to get the pain under control after a 6-8 hour procedure as well as try to walk on crutches. He ended up having an issue with his bladder not emptying and as a 13-year-old in a room with another teenager that he did not know, he was super uncomfortable and unsure of how to use a bedpan without his mom’s help, because that’s embarrassing.

Kevin realized right away that he wasn’t getting anywhere and came to the rescue. He was patient and offered lots of options, advice, and assistance without embarrassing my son and me. He stayed on the problem then at shift change, realized my som would be uncomfortable having a female nurse assist, he stayed past his normal shift end and offered to help with the Cath one more time knowing that making him even more uncomfortable would set him back even more. His kind heart and his alertness to a teenager's needs made a huge impression on my son and made my heart as a mom happy! Nurses like Kevin make CHOP amazing and we are so grateful!
