Kevin took it upon himself to prevent any further muscle atrophy by helping dad stand every 2 hours.
My 94-year-old father recently had total hip replacement surgery and had experienced setbacks in his recovery. Several weeks after surgery he was readmitted to the hospital unable to walk or even stand without considerable assistance. He was experiencing medical problems secondary to his lack of mobility such as extreme edema in his legs.

Kevin was dad’s nurse for the first few days of his nearly week-long stay. His attentive care gave dad and us renewed hope. Recognizing that dad wouldn’t receive physical therapy over the weekend (he was admitted Friday afternoon) Kevin took it upon himself to prevent any further muscle atrophy by helping dad stand every 2 hours. He also offered him tips on exercises to do while he was sitting or in bed. His commitment, encouragement, and effort to “go the extra mile” made a huge difference in my dad’s physical and mental health.

We were fortunate enough to see Kevin again today on dad’s last day in the hospital and he continued his great care and extra efforts to complement physical therapy’s support. Kevin is truly a nurse who cares, takes the time to get to know his patients, and has excellent clinical and interpersonal skills.
