July 2026 Honoree
Kevin Mullins, RN
Kevin is always genuine and goes above and beyond with his pediatric patients. He gets on their level, and it is remarkable to watch the rapport he forms with them. There is trust, smiles, and often giggles! Parents are at ease when their children are taken to the OR by him.
This morning, my 8-year-old daughter had surgery at Teays Hospital. She had never been put under sedation before, so we were very nervous. Yesterday, Kevin was alerted by my coworker that our anxiety was high last night, so he made a video introducing himself, saying that he would be present for her surgery, and told us what would happen, which was sent to us in a text at home from my coworker. He mentioned a teddy bear that she would receive and various cool themed stickers.
His upbeat personality and demeanor were calming. Today at the hospital, it was nice to see his face, and he's even friendlier in person than in his heartfelt video text we had received the night before.
Our emotions got the best of us today before surgery, but he remained bubbly and made conversation to steady our minds. While in the waiting area, I received another text from him stating that my daughter was out of surgery and did great. Soon after, the surgeon called to go over details. All our nurse team was very patient and sweet.
My baby's first surgery went well and had great results. I pray that if any of my babies ever need surgery again, Kevin will be there. The OR team at Teays Hospital is lucky to have his kindness. I hope that he receives the appreciation he deserves. I have a feeling he's like this with all his patients and not just my daughter.
Thank you, Kevin!
